Bar review: Nissaki Lounge Bar, Ayia Napa

By Andreas Vou

With sweltering temperatures in full-swing, locals and tourists are looking to manage the best way of getting the most out of the sunshine while also managing to find refuge in the shade when the heat gets a little too much.

Ayia Napa and Protaras, like resorts around the island are catching on to the beach bar trend and a handful have opened in recent years to offer the region an additional dimension.

Nissaki Lounge Bar was one of the first of its kind to open in the area and, as you may have predicted from the name, is situated on Nissi Avenue in Ayia Napa. It offers an alternative to the usually hectic and often tacky nightlife in the town which is perhaps the main reason it has found success.

Open from the morning until the early hours of the next day, Nissaki gives its visitors the choice to eat and drink on swish sofas in a protected area from the scorching sun or, alternatively, offers the option to take in the beautiful views of the beach on slightly more comfortable lounge beds just metres away from the sea.

Without doubt, especially in these temperatures, cocktails are the order of the day and Nissaki has no shortage when it comes to options. A wide variety of beers is also available for those who do not like to complicate things as well as all sorts of coffees. While not attempting to pose as a top quality restaurant, it seems to do a far better job than most other such establishments on the island in terms of service and presentation – and the quality of food is excellent too.

Most daytimes tend to be relaxed but the summer evenings, in true Ayia Napa fashion, are action-packed with guest DJs and live singers taking its attendees through to the early hours of the morning.
