Saints climb to second as Hammers beat champions City

Southampton beat Stoke City 1-0 and moved into second place while champions Manchester City slipped back to third after losing 2-1 at West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Chelsea, who play at Manchester United on Sunday, lead the title chase with 22 points from their eight matches, while Saints, who beat Stoke with Sadio Mane’s eighth goal of the season, are second on 19 from nine games.

City are third on 17 after losing at West Ham who won with goals from Morgan Amalfitano and Diafra Sakho. City pulled one back through David Silva. The Hammers are fourth on 16 points.

Arsenal won for only the second time in eight league matches beating Sunderland 2-0 with Alexis Sanchez scoring twice but Liverpool’s woes continued when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Hull City with Mario Balotelli missing an open goal with almost the last kick that would have won the match for the Reds.

West Bromwich Albion came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home with Crystal Palace while Swansea City were playing Leicester City in the late match kicking off at 1630 GMT.
