British celebrity baker Paul Hollywood is in Cyprus for a family holiday, returning to his old haunt of Paphos where he worked for six years.
Hollywood who used to work at the Anassa Hotel in Paphos has been a judge on the popular TV show the Great British Bake Off with the ‘Queen of Cakes’ Mary Berry since 2010. The show pits 12 amateur bakers against each other to find the best British baker.
Hollywood has also worked as head baker in such hotels as the Dorchester and Cliveden hotels.
The 49-year-old and his wife Alexandra, a diving instructor, with their 12-year-old son Josh are said to be holidaying in Paphos.
Hollywood worked at the Anassa from 1994 to 1999 teaching European baking methods.
“I was baking out there, the weather was fantastic, it was a great place to be and I met my wife Alex,” he told the Telegraph in response to a question as to when he was happiest in his life. The couple got married on the island.
In another interview, he told the Daily Mail: “I flew out for an interview thinking it would just be a jolly for two days but came back really wanting to work there, which was so different to my normal character. I’d always been such a home bird. When I moved to Cyprus, Mum gave it three weeks – I stayed for six years.”
On Sunday, Hollywood posted a photo of himself holding a newly-hatched turtle in his palm, saying he was watching the hatchlings heading to the sea. “One turtle about to be launched into the sea…,” he tweeted.
