Cyprus welcomes Iran deal

The ministry of foreign affairs has welcomed the agreement on Iran`s nuclear programme and the lifting of the sanctions against Tehran.

An official statement said: “The ministry of foreign affairs of the Republic of Cyprus welcomes the official announcement of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verifying the implementation by Iran of the nuclear related measures of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which was agreed on 14 July 2015 between Iran and E3+3, as well as the subsequent lifting of EU economic and financial restrictive measures against Iran”.

This positive development, the statement added, “opens a new chapter in EU-Iran relations, to the benefit of both sides”.

“The full implementation of the JCPOA ensures the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran`s nuclear programme. This is a historic moment, given the long-running diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive, long lasting and peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue,” it concludes. (CNA)
