Two robbers tried to loot scrap from closed slaughterhouse

Kofinou slaughterhouse (CNA)

Two men were caught red-handed stealing machinery and scrap metal from the closed-down Kofinou slaughterhouse on Sunday night but fled empty-handed before police got there.

The thieves were seen passing the machinery and bags of scrap through the fence by a passerby who alerted police at around 8.30pm. As soon as the robbers realised they had been spotted they fled.

At the scene, police found they had removed 11 various types pieces of machinery in an unusable state and six bags of scrap metal. The thieves had cut through the wire fence to gain access and then broke the locks on the slaughterhouse doors.

Kofinou police are investigating.
