In remembrance there is salvation

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will open its musical season with three evening concerts under the name Mikis Theodorakis: Songs of the Dead Brother in Paphos on Wednesday, in Nicosia on Thursday, and in Limassol on Friday. The concerts, within the framework of the Kypria International Festival 2016, will also feature narrations by Petros Georgadjis and Baris Refikoglu, performances by soloists Dimitris Basis and Sofia Avramidou and the Bi-Communal Choir for Peace in Cyprus.

Theodorakis’ musicotheatrical work Song of the Dead Brother is a song of praise to human dignity and the universal need for remembrance. At the same time, it is a brave call for national unity and unanimity after the suffering of a civil war of brothers against brothers.

The presentation of the work a few days before the anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus, on October 1, has a special symbolic significance. The work speaks of the Mother (a symbol of the homeland), whose two sons were in opposite camps and were eventually killed in the war. The work ends with the choral song “Unite rock next to rock, unite hand in hand”.

Tickets can be bought before the performances on and at all SOEASY kiosks.
