Larnaca man gets 13 years for raping stepdaughter, 12, for four years

Larnaca court

The Larnaca Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old man to 13 years’ imprisonment for raping his stepdaughter over the course of four years from age 12.

He was found guilty for rape, corrupting a young woman under the age of 13, corrupting a young woman over 13 and under 17, sexual exploitation and child abuse. The offenses took place in Larnaca between September 2011 and May 2015.

The hearing took place behind closed doors to protect the identity of the minor.

According to the court decision, “he did not hesitate to sexually exploit the complainant, aged 12, by violating her, often and repeatedly – about once a month”.

It added that the 37-year-old had been threatening her during the four years that he would beat her mother and brother, and he used her as “an object of satisfaction of his sexual appetites”, the ruling said.

Instead of acting as a stepfather and a member of the family and a protector, he used the girl to satisfy his sexual appetites.

“The actions of the accused have caused us revulsion and disgust,” the court said. “His conduct, brought him down from a human to a lower level. Those who rape and sexually exploit minors, will face the rigour of the court,” it said.
