Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will support the position of Cyprus on the issue of Turkey`s intervention in the island’s exclusive economic zone after meeting with President Nicos Anastasiades on Thursday night in Brussels, a Greek government source told CNA.

Tsipras will address the Informal EU27 Council Friday evening on the matter, after Anastasiades gives his speech.

Both Tsipras and Anastasiades are to have a joint meeting with Italian Prime Minister Gentilloni, while the former  will also brief the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Federica Mogherini. The aim of the Greek side is to push the EU to take a clear and clear position on the issue of Turkish interventions in the Cypriot EEZ.

Turkey has blockaded the drillship being used by Italy’s ENI for the past two weeks making sure it’s not able to reach the drill site in block 3 of the EEZ.
