Competition watchdog carries out surprise checks on fruit and veg wholesalers

69 per cent of Cyprus residents eat fruit every day

The competition watchdog carried out surprise checks in fresh fruit and vegetable wholesale markets in Nicosia and Limassol, as well as other businesses trading in produce, it was announced on Tuesday.

The checks were carried out between 1am and lunchtime on Monday.

Teams from the competition commission, the state audit service, and police officers, took part in the inspections.

The watchdog said the teams collected information that will be used in an investigation and in no way did the checks imply that any businesses had violated competition laws.
