Tracing the work and vision of Vassos Lyssarides

Coffee with the Doctor – Deep Thoughts on Cyprus is the title of a new book on Cypriot politician and physician Dr Vassos Lyssarides, who was a central figure in the island’s politics since its independence. Author Demetra Molyva will present her latest book next Monday at the Cyprus Union of Journalists House in Nicosia.

Tracing Dr Lyssarides’ work and vision, the book includes a series of face to face interviews with him over a period of time in which his personality, thoughts and fears for Cyprus and his work as a doctor, poet and artist are outlined. The second part of the book includes a series of key speeches in English made by Lyssarides abroad. A chapter is also dedicated to his late wife Barbara, who stood by him through the struggles for Cyprus, and to whom he was and will always be grateful.

The author, who knew Dr Lyssarides since childhood, felt the need to place his persona in a framework to be shared by the public. Coffee with the Doctor – Deep Thoughts on Cyprus is an easy read in English and a way to have an insight into Dr Lyssarides’ soul and mind.

Former Justice Minister Doros Theodorou will be present at the event along with journalist and media professor Giorgos Nicolaou. Journalist Tonia Stavrinou will coordinate the book presentation, set to begin at 6.30pm.
