Peyia forest fire under control, authorities investigating possible arson (Updated)

The fire which raged in the Peyia forest in the Paphos district on Monday morning is completely under control, the fire service announced at noon.

Firefighters were battling three separate fires in the state forest which are believed to have been caused by arson.

The fires broke out at 9.30am and were under control by 10.20am but A total of 2.5 hectares of the forest was burnt.

Four fire engines and two helicopters were mobilised, as well as a large crew from the forestry department.

The incident is being investigated by police.
