Lovebird’s yoga: learn to slow down

Yoga

An upcoming online event this weekend celebrates Valentine’s Day by inviting couples for downward dogs, child poses and stretches. Yoga instructors Skevi Chrysou Tofaridou and Vicky Christou are putting together a special yoga class for couples to strengthen their body and bond!

Hosted on Zoom, the one-hour session aims at boosting positivity in the relationship, increasing communication and mutual trust by giving couples an opportunity to spend quality time together while learning new skills through slowing down. The class is open to all levels of yogis, with the ultimate goal for its participants to share a meaningful experience together.

“Couples Yoga is definitely a lovely way to reconnect,” say the instructors, “to get to know each other better, to reduce and release any kind of anxiety or stress and of course to stretch!” The class, costing €20, begins at 6pm this Sunday and lovebirds interested in taking part should email [email protected] to reserve a spot and receive the Zoom link.

For single yogis or couples who prefer practising yoga solo and anyone else interested, another online yoga class is taking place a day beforehand. Part of the Mind, Body & Spirit Festival’s online series of events is a free hatha yoga session with instructor Mayka. This soothing practise on Saturday is suitable for all levels and includes mindful yoga postures, breathing techniques and guided relaxation.

“Yoga shows the way to holistic wellbeing and this is a wonderful opportunity to experience its benefits,” says Mayka. “This class is designed to help you to release tension in your body, let go of mental stress and discover stillness within.” The session will start at 4pm, also on Zoom, and will last for one hour. All you have to do to join is send a message to the Festival’s Facebook page and then simply ‘Relax and Rejoice’ as Mayka’s yoga class is called.
