Kiosk owner shot with airgun in attempted robbery

A Nicosia kiosk owner was shot in the face with an airgun on Friday as he tried to avoid getting robbed, police said.

According to reports, at around 12.40am a man speaking with a Cypriot dialect entered a kiosk on Larnaca Avenue in the capital, took out an air pistol and demanded the money from the owner.

The owner sprayed air freshener into the man’s face before being shot in the left cheek.

The would-be robber then fled the scene, police said.

The kiosk owner drove himself to Nicosia General Hospital where he was due to undergo surgery to remove the pellet from his cheek.

The assailant is described as being 1.80 metres tall, wearing dark clothes, black gloves, a hood and a black cap.
