For the fifth time this year the ARTos Foundation is Nicosia will put on a festival dedicated to soundtracks from videos and films without sound by contemporary creators on Friday entitled Moving Silence.
The event will bring together musicians and composers who will perform their music live while the films or videos which inspired them are screened.
“Any visual style can profit from a sound language, by using advanced digital technologies as well as old analogue techniques. Live performances sustain and amplify the films as musicians can breathe new life into silent cinema, which inappropriately remained silent for such a long time,” organisers say.
Moving Silence was originally founded in the summer of 2009 by the musician Marco Brosolo, filmmaker Fritsch and producer Federico Bassett. The artists’ aim was and still is to create events that connect the roots of cinematography with the present aesthetics of image, live music production and the potential of new technology.
The event is all about experimenting with sound and merging this sound with a visual stimulus to create new artistic effects and also offer audience members a whole new experience when it comes to a new twist on silent films.
Musicians and composers will meet to perform live soundtracks for video and film works without sound by contemporary creators. December 11. ARTos Foundation, Nicosia. 8.30pm. Free. Tel: 22-445455
