Cyprob comments ‘a mess of contradictions’

Giorgos Lillikas

Citizens Alliance leader Giorgos Lillikas on Sunday called President Nicos Anastasiades to task over what he called the government’s contradictory comments on the Cyprus issue.

Anastasiades in an interview with Kathimerini said a solution was possible before summer, but probably not before March but maybe not at all in 2016, or it could be solved tomorrow if not for Turkish intransigence.

Meanwhile in an interview with Politis, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said a solution was expected in 2016 and spoke of a possible compromise with Turkey on the issue of guarantees.

Lillikas in a brief written statement called it a “mess of contradictions”. “Either there is no contact and communication between President Anastasiades and the foreign ministry or there are deliberate and coordinated attempts to mislead the people in order to serve electoral considerations,” he said. “Whichever it is it is obvious that the President and the government are acting in a reckelss manner.”
