Uni grant payments get underway

University students

ALMOST 250 state grant applications for university students have been rejected, while payments for over 2,000 successful applicants have begun, the Education Ministry said on Wednesday.

Concerning the 2015-2016 academic year, the procedure adhered to new regulations introduced in December last year which makes the ministry the sole authority responsible for the grants, with one universal common application and merging all grants into one.

Specifically, 2,213 students have received the state grant, while 242 were rejected because they did not meet all the criteria.

The ministry said it wanted to ensure the recipients were in real need and there was no squandering of state funds.
