Coronavirus: one death, 115 new cases announced on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry announced one death and 115 new cases on Sunday from 40,974 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.28 per cent.

The death concerned a man aged 94 with underlying conditions who died at the Famagusta reference hospital. This brings total deaths to 212. The average age of death was 79.

The total number of tests that have come up positive so far is 31,759.

There are 109 people in hospitals of whom 33 are in critical condition with 21 of those intubated..

Of the 40,974 tests over the past 24 hours,  852 were PCR and 40,122 antigen rapid test method.

Of the total 115 positives, 76 came from the rapid testing and the remainder from the PCR tests, broken down as follows:

  • 27 from 206 samples taken through contact tracing
  • 6 from 268 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 5 from 157 samples tested in general hospital labs
  • 1 from 221 GP referrals

No positives were detected from 30 samples taken by private labs.
