Coronavirus: one death, 107 new cases announced on Thursday (Updated)

The health ministry announced one death and 107 new cases from a total of 25,555 PCR and rapid testing on Thursday, a 0.42 positivity rate.

The death concerned a woman aged 79 with underlying conditions who died at the Limassol hospital.  Total deaths now stand at 228 with an average age of 79.

There are 81 people in hospitals, 21 of whom are in serious condition. Of the latter, 10 are intubated.

Of the 25,555 tests 1,720 were PCR and 23,835 were rapid tests. From the latter 57 cases were detected.

From the PCR tests

  • 25 cases came from 251 samples taken through contact tracing 
  • 15 from 1,023 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 from 221 samples processed at hospital labs 
  • 1 case from 2 samples taken under the migrant programme 
  • 1 case from 26 samples taken within the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
  • 1 case from 196 samples processed in private clinical laboratories

From 124 samples taken through GP referrals, no cases were found.
