Coronavirus: Concerns that paramedical staff remain unvaccinated

Paphos medical association said they were expecting a better Covid vaccination plan from the health ministry as a large number of paramedical staff remain unvaccinated.

Most private doctors in Paphos have received a coronavirus vaccine, the head of the Paphos Medical Association Georgios Vorkas told the Cyrpus News Agency, but expressed concern about the lack of vaccination to the majority of paramedical staff which is a “serious issue for private clinics”.

Vorkas said he understands there are limited deliveries of Covid vaccines and that priority is given to the elderly, but was expecting a better planning for the health ministry regarding the vaccines. He added however that this is a pan-European problem.

Regarding the referral of non-Covid cases to the private clinics from the public hospitals, which manage all coronavirus patients, the head of the association said this results in doctors operating on “patients they have never seen, without knowing their [medical] history”.

He also instructed the patients to visit the hospital alone, and not accompanied by relatives or friends, as part of the measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Cyprus is near the end of the pandemic, the doctor added, suggesting the district showed remarkable consistency and the situation will be a better in the summer.
