A large fire broke out in an area near the road connecting Anthoupolis and Ayioi Trimithia on Thursday morning.

According to a statement released by a Fire Department spokesperson, firemen responded to a call they received at around 11am about a fire near the Nicosia Grammar School.

Several people said they saw dense smoke rising from the area and visible from afar.

Two staffed fire engines from Lakatamia Station were immediately dispatched to the area.

The fire, which started in an area with abandoned cars, burned some crops, but the Fire Department said no one was injured and no buildings were near enough the fire to be damaged.
