Dwayne Johnson’s depression battle drove him to help others

Even Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, has had to battle depression. A battle made particularly painful given that his hero, father Rocky Johnson, wanted his son to grow up to be tough and stoic.

Yet, as we learn in this video, Dwayne’s depression tortured him at a time when all his dreams seemed impossible – an experience he realised many other men and boys, struggle with, too, due to society’s signals that they never show any signs of ‘weakness’.

Today, having emerged from his battle with the soul-crushing darkness, he has committed to being a role model for a different kind of masculinity, one unafraid to express feelings and admit vulnerability.
