Police on Tuesday arrested a 53-year-old woman wanted in connection with the theft of around €70,000 from an apartment in Kato Paphos last week.

The woman was a ‘key’ person in the case as, according to the 64-year-old owner of the house, she was the only one who knew about the specific sum of money, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Ioannou had told the media the previous day.

The woman had a friendly relationship with the Russian house owner, Ioannou said.

The burglary took place at around 3pm on Friday when three hooded men barged into the apartment, assaulted the 64-year-old and stole the cash. The victim was injured but is not in serious condition.

He told police the culprits were speaking to him in Russian.

The home owner had withdrawn the money from the bank before an upcoming trip to his country, according to Ioannou.
