The first week of April already has plenty of fun events in store, with a little something planned for all tastes. Lovers of spoken word, song and the performance world, in general, can check out the Open Mic Night that Pe’Ta, Write it, Bring it and Say it is organising on Tuesday.

Held at Kleidi Bar in Larnaca, the organisers welcome artists and performers of all genres to come and share their art, be it amateur or not. Tuesday’s theme is ‘Enough!’ and each speaker has a maximum of five minutes to perform a story, a song or a poem. Hosted by Anetta Benzar, the event begins at 7.30pm sharp and welcomes pieces in all languages.

On April 10, Pe’Ta is organising another Open Mic night, this time at Nicosia’s Yfantourgeio the Workplace. The premise is the same, performers have five minutes on stage, without a theme to follow at this event. Presenting the evening will be author, poet and singer Maria Kouvarou along with the National Cyprus Poetry Slam Champion and co-founder of Pe’Ta, Argyris Loizou.

From 11am until 5pm, the park will be filled with stalls of various creators selling ceramics, illustrations, paintings, clothing, jewellery and more handmade unique creations. On the decks, DJ Marcos will be playing some uplifting tunes while the café-restaurant will serve snacks and drinks.

On the same weekend, the Limassol creative centre Meltemi will begin a new round of experimental workshops on the lustre glaze technique in ceramics. Starting on April 10 and continuing on the following weekend, a 3-day workshop by artist Vassos Demetriou will be taught focusing on a specific technique.

The lustre glaze technique was developed in Persia and the Arab countries and further evolved in Spain and Italy. Lustre glaze is what gives various metallic reflections in the ceramic glazes, which are succeeded through an intense oxygen reduction during the cooling of the kiln. April 10 will be all about creating the ceramic pieces to be lustred and fired, April 16 will include glazing, colouring and firing the ceramics. Concluding the workshop, April 17 will analyse the results of the workshop and their chemical alternatives and reactions.
