Music and words

open mic

Easter week is upon us and beyond the traditional festivities some events are scheduled to lift the mood through music and spoken word. Tonight an Open Mic night will be held at Prozac, organised by Pe’Ta.

From 7.30pm, performers and guests will hear poems, songs, stories and stand-up pieces by those taking the floor. Each performer will have five minutes to perform their work, in any language they wish.

“It is our ethos to give creatives/artists/performers a platform to share their work in front of a live, supportive and enthusiastic audience,” says the Pe’Ta team. “We invite creatives of all walks of art, from the professional to the first-timers.”

Come Saturday and as the world celebrates the annual Record Store Day, so will Ola DJ music store. The Nicosia store is organising a pop-up event at Ecru coffee to mark the day, selling a huge selection of vinyl records from classic rock to jazz, blues and hip hop. The event kicks off at 10am with DJs Andreas Eliades, Bkas, Yioti Joans and Andrez P playing vinyl sets until the day wraps up a 5pm.

Then, on Easter Sunday, hours after the food extravaganza has concluded, Minus One will play an explosive set at Savino Live at 10pm. Yet it’s not their signature pop-rock tunes that will sound on April 24 but a selection of dance hits in a set titled The Songs That Make Us Dance, putting on a funky, groovy show this Easter.
