The vitamin deficiency that can cause bloodshot eyes

This video is meant to expand your general knowledge about living a healthy life and is NOT a substitute for seeking medical advice. Please consult with your doctor before making changes in your health practices, diet and self-care.

Here, Dr. Eric Berg, a chiropractor who specialises in healthy ketosis and Intermittent Fasting, discusses a cause of bloodshot eyes.

We learn that vitamin B2 deficiency can cause eyes to look bloodshot, while also potentially causing itchy eyes, watery eyes and light sensitivity, as well. The same deficiency may also cause cracked or chapped lips, cracked mouth corners, an oily nose, a bright red tongue and migraines.

So, what causes low vitamin B2? Believe it or not, a vitamin B2 deficiency isn’t usually caused by failing to consume enough B2-rich foods. Instead, it’s typically caused by malabsorption.

There are two primary causes of poor vitamin B2 absorption: gut inflammation and consuming refined carbohydrates. Bread, pasta, cereal, crackers, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, and all other refined carb products are very destructive to the digestive system and should be avoided.
