British Cypriot author Alex Michaelides was named as Cyprus’ “Man of the Year” on Thursday night.

He was presented with his award by President Nikos Christodoulides, who said “men who inspire, who pave the way for our country and for others, and give us hope for tomorrow, receive plaudits.”

“One of them has stood out, as the importance of his work is recognised, not only by us in Cyprus, but also by millions of people around the world including reputable representatives of the press,” he said.

Michaelides is the author of psychological thriller The Silent Patient, which has sold over 6.5 million copies and is a New York Times bestseller.

He also wrote the film The Devil You Know, which starred Jennifer Lawrence, and The Con is On, which starred Uma Thurman.
