Brazil managed to overcome Uruguay in the first semi-final game for the Confederations Cup at the Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte thanks to a late headed goal from Paulinho.
Brazil had opened the score just before the break when Fred latched onto to a loose ball in the penalty area following some great play by Neymar.
Sloppy Brazil defending allowed Uruguay back into the game when Cavani fired past Brazilain keeper Julio Cesar from close range in the 48th minute. Uruguay’s veteran striker Diego Forlan had also missed a first half penalty in an otherwise dull encounter.
World and European champions Spain take on Italy in the other semi final on Thursday. The game begins at 22.00.
