Body found in abandoned hotel identified

The body of a man found dead in the lobby of the abandoned Beau Rivage hotel in Larnaca on Thursday evening has been identified as that of Angelos Phedonos, 46, from Nicosia.

Police believe foul play is behind the death. Phedonos had been reported missing by his family on July 31. His car, a grey Toyota, was found on a plot adjacent to the hotel.

Police got a tip about the body shortly after 7pm on Thursday. The victim’s head had injuries consistent with a blow, and his body lay next to shards of glass and a piece of wood with blood on it.

The area was cordoned off and state pathologists were brought in to examine the body. An autopsy will be carried out today.
