Larnaca police investigate unprovoked pub assault

Larnaca general hospital

Larnaca police are investigating a complaint by a 21-year-old that he was attacked while with friends in the early hours of Sunday at pub in the town.

According to a police report, the young man said he was sitting with friends minding his own business when a man unknown to him walked up to him, grabbed him by the shirt and began punching him in the face repeatedly. The assailant then began hitting him on the head and shoulders with a bat, he said.

Police said the 21-year-old and his friends ran out of the premises and went to their car but the man followed them and began bashing the car – belonging to a 19-year-old – with the bat, causing around 300 euros worth of damage.

The injured 21-year-old was taken by his friends to the Larnaca General Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries and later released.
