A 78-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Paphos on Saturday morning, police said.

According to the Paphos traffic chief, Zenon Psathiti, at around 7:20am an unknown driver hit and injured Yiannakis Christodoulou, a retired nurse who was crossing the road. The car fled the scene. The pensioner was taken to hospital where his death was confirmed by doctors.

From preliminary evidence gathered by police at the scene they determined early on that the car was a Toyota, either silver or grey, Psathitis said. Later on Saturday police released a photo of what they believe to be the car involved in the hit and run, time stamped at 7.22 am.
