Teen held for burglary

A 17-year-old male from Famagusta was remanded in custody for four days on Saturday in connection with burglary and theft.

The teenager is suspected of stealing close to €8,000 in property from the home of a British couple in the Famagusta district.

The couple were absent between November 15 last year and earlier this week.

The theft was reported to police by the couple’s son.

Police said the 17-year-old is suspected of breaking into the house through an aluminium door on the veranda.

The court heard that motorcycles, jewellery, watches, cameras, tools, and car spare parts, had gone missing from the house, which police believe had been hit twice.

Officers recovered a mobile phone dumped in the fields after the second burglary.
