Attempted murder suspect arrested

POLICE say they arrested a man Monday in Nicosia, for attempted murder after he allegedly fired two rounds at a man, hitting his vehicle and an adjacent one, earlier in the day.

“A 45-year-old was arrested on a judicial warrant midday today and detained to facilitate investigations,” police said in a statement on the matter.

“In a search that was carried out in his residence, with his written permission, two shotguns, a flobert rifle and a pistol that appears to be a replica, were discovered and taken as evidence.”

Police say they received a report from a 55-year-old man, that around 1am while at a coffee shop, after being attacked and threatened by a 45-year-old, he called a 23-year-old for assistance.

The younger man, who arrived at the scene in his vehicle then had an argument with the 45-year-old, who allegedly then twice fired a shotgun hitting the vehicle of 23-year-old and another nearby.

The Cyprus Mail understands both older men have repeatedly preoccupied the police with cases concerning drugs.
