Four arrested for drugs in two separate operations

The drug squad arrested four men in two separate raids in Famagusta and Nicosia districts, confiscating cash and cannabis, police said Friday.

“At around 4pm yesterday (Thursday) members of the drug squad searched a house in a livestock farming area, in a Famagusta area village. Police on entering the house, spotted a 26-year-old throwing out of a window, a nylon bag which was later found to contain 26 packages of cannabis weighing a total of around 106 grammes,” a police statement said.

Police said that in a search that followed another gramme of cannabis, a precision scale, €1,560 in cash, four mobile phones and a notebook were found and taken as evidence.

“During the search, a 29-year-old man, resident of a Famagusta village, was discovered hiding in the yard of the house.”

The men were arrested and detained to facilitate investigations after police secured a judicial warrant.

Meanwhile, in Nicosia later in the afternoon, two men aged 23 and 21 were also apprehended in connection with a cannabis find.

“It was around 6.30pm yesterday, when members of the drug squad carried out a search at the residence in Nicosia, of the two apprehended men. During the search an amount of cannabis weighing around 140 grammes, two precision scales with traces of a white substance, possibly cocaine, a flare and eight fire crackers were discovered and confiscated as evidence.”

Police, who said the Nicosia drug squad are continuing investigations, arrested and detained the men for further questioning, after securing a judicial warrant.
