Remand for suspected credit-card thief

Limassol court

A 52-year-old woman from Limassol was remanded on Wednesday for six days for allegedly stealing and using the credit card of a 76-year-old.

According to the police, the elderly woman reported on Tuesday that her purse had been stolen and that she had discovered the card had been used five times for purchases and cash withdrawals for the total amount of €1,660.

The same day, a co-op bank employee alerted the police after he saw a woman who had been repeatedly trying unsuccessfully to withdraw cash from the outlet’s ATM machine.

Officers located the woman, in whose possession they found €186 for which she did not provide adequate explanations, and she arrested her for illegal possession of property.

Police said the suspect admitted to stealing the credit card. She also told officers that she had swallowed a golden neck chain and a golden coin, and she was taken to the Limassol general hospital for tests.
