Elderly man dies after car plunges down a cliff

Police are investigating the sudden death of 80-year-old Andreas Stylianou from Panayia.

The elderly man was driving on a rural road in Panayia when his vehicle struck a tree and fell down a 30-metre deep cliff at 1pm.

Members of the police force and the fire brigade rushed to the scene and Stylianou was taken to Paphos general hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

Relatives identified the 80-year-old man who is said to have suffered from severe heart problems.

The causes of the accident are being investigated. A post mortem will be carried out on Thursday.
