Police brief Disy on underworld crackdown

Police chief Zacharias Chrysostomou with Disy leader Averof Neophytou on Wednesday

Ruling Disy leader Averof Neophytou and a delegation from the party on Wednesday visited police headquarters in Nicosia, receiving a briefing on the police force’s recent clampdown on organised crime from chief Zacharias Chrysostomou.

“I have informed the president [of Disy] and the delegation about the strategic objectives and priorities of the police,” the police chief said.

“It is imperative that these strategic objectives are implemented because the working environment in the field of policing, public order and security is changing and evolving rapidly on a global level.”
He thanked Neophytou for his interest “in the issues of public order and security, as well as his parliamentary assistance in this area”.

Neophytou expressed his party’s continued support for the force. “We owe it to the public to feel secure as they go about their everyday lives … an independent, objective police force,” he said.
