The Famagusta district court issued a two-day remand for four more people aged 41, 22, 29 and 21 who were arrested on Wednesday for breaching the Dherynia checkpoint.

Two other people, aged 25 and 27, were also remanded for three days on Wednesday.

On Sunday night, about 250 nationalists charged through a police checkpoint at Dherynia, to protest the opening of part of Varosha nearby.

The police are investigating them on charges of malicious property damage and participation in a criminal organisation, among other illegalities.

The incident shocked many across the divide who are fearful of further escalations stemming from the delicate issue of Varosha.
