Online screenings of Israeli films continue

Golda Poster English

The Embassy of Israel continues its online screenings of historical films as part of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and Cyprus. Until October 18, the documentary film Golda will be available online, covering the eventful story of Golda Meier’s term. She was Israel’s fourth prime minister and one of the first elected women leaders in the world.

Shortly before her passing in 1978, Golda Meir was interviewed for Israeli television. After the interview ended, the cameras kept rolling, recording an intimate talk with the first and only woman to ever rule Israel. As she lit one cigarette after the other, Golda spoke freely, pleading her case for her term as prime minister– five turbulent years that secured her place in history, albeit at a high personal cost.

Based on that never-seen-before footage, on testimonies of supporters and opponents and on rare archival material, Golda tells the story of Meir’s dramatic premiership – from her surprising rise to power and iconic international stature as “queen of the Jewish people”, to her tragic and lonely demise. The film offers a new look into the life and turbulent term of a truly extraordinary woman.
