Colder start to March after spring-like temperatures

March is expected to arrive with rain, local showers and a drop in temperatures, the met office said on Friday.

According to the head of the meteorology department, Kleanthis Nicolaides, though warmer weather is expected during the weekend with April-like temperatures, the pattern will start changing next week.

Speaking to state broadcaster CyBC, Nicolaides said that a low-pressure system will affect Cyprus with rain, isolated storms, the possibility of snow in Troodos and lower temperatures.

Nicolaides said this weather pattern is expected between Monday and Wednesday. On Tuesday snow is expected also in the higher mountain areas.

He added that this week has recorded spring temperatures of between 19 C to 22C, but from Monday a slight drop is expected to seasonal levels.

“We will have wintry scenery at the beginning of the first month of spring,” he said. He pointed out that the weather will not be much colder, but rather see a slight temperature drop.

February, usually one of the wettest months, has seen little rain. According to statistics issued on Friday, since the beginning of the month and up to February 25, only 21.5 mm of rainfall was recorded, equivalent to 26 per cent of the average for the month which is 81.6 mm.
