Winning at life step by step

In honour of International Women’s Day, OPAP Cyprus reiterated its support for Europa Donna Cyprus and expressed its respect for every woman in the country, claiming with dignity the right to life’s most valuable gift, health.

Women’s Day is a reminder of our obligation and responsibility to support women’s rights. As a long-term, proud supporter of Europa Donna, OPAP Cyprus stands by the nation’s women through a series of actions contributing to raising awareness on breast cancer.

Europa Donna and all its volunteers would like to extend the message: “We will win at life together, step by step” to every woman experiencing breast cancer in Cyrus, by offering psychological support and practical help in an environment of warmth and understanding.

OPAP Cyprus is standing by every step of the way, helping with the implementation of Europa Donna’s plans and programmes as shown in a short film recorded in the context of this release.

The two organisations started their collaboration in 2012 when OPAP Cyprus embraced the Europa Donna programme “StiriZO” (Support), which aimed to meet the growing mental and emotional needs of women experiencing breast cancer and their families.

OPAP went on to support a second programme titled “GnoriZO” (Knowledge) which aimed at raising awareness among the public on the importance of early diagnosis of breast cancer, by donating eight state-of-the-art mammogram machines to the ministry of health.

In 2018 Europa Donna added the “FrontiZO” (Care) programme to its arsenal, offering physical therapy to men and women who experienced, or are currently experiencing, breast cancer. OPAP Cyprus was involved in the effective implementation of this programme as well.

From 2012 until today, Europa Donna and OPAP Cyprus have become “Bosom Buddies”. This is also the name of the programme offering those undergoing surgery a free first round of prosthetics, as well as support from specialised nurses.

“On International Women’s Day, we honour every woman in Cyprus fighting for better health, and a better quality of life,” OPAP Cyprus CEO Dimitris Aletraris said. “Health, life’s most valuable gift, is a priority for OPAP Cyprus, and on this basis we will continue to consistently support Europa Donna’s projects as part of our social action”.
