Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival set to return for 2021 edition

For its eighth consecutive year, the Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival will take place this autumn, between October 8 and 10 across the island, internationally and online. Multiple performances, works-in-progress and finished works will be presented over a weekend of encounters between international and local artists and audiences. The festival will be supporting new, exciting projects and collaborations, building on last year’s theme of Displacement.

The Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival (or, Buffer Fringe) started its journey in 2014 with the aim of breaking physical and mental barriers through the transformative power of art. Buffer Fringe showcases new and experimental work by local and international artists, offering them a platform to interact with audiences in a true celebratory spirit of multiculturalism and peaceful coexistence. Buffer Fringe 2020 was one of the few artistic platforms in Cyprus and globally to have adapted and materialised a festival amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2021 edition will take place under Artistic Director Ellada Evangelou in collaboration with Creative Directors Nihal Soğancı and Maria Varnakkidou. The three will constitute the creative and organisational core of the festival, with Diomedes Koufteros in Communications and Outreach, and Zoe Kakota as Technical Director complementing the team.

Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival is a programme of the Home for Cooperation Project, implemented by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research, with the financial support of the Active Citizens Fund. 2021 also marks the 10th anniversary of the Home for Cooperation of fostering social, political and cultural dialogue between the communities of Cyprus.
