Half kilo duty free tobacco, 240 firecrackers confiscated

About half a kilo of duty-free tobacco was found in a car while 240 firecrackers were also confiscated during a coordinated operation in the Larnaca district on Wednesday.

The operation was carried out by Cyprus police, the British Bases and the UN from 5pm until 7pm in the area around Pyla.

A total of 30 vehicles and 42 individuals were checked, resulting in one person being booked for traffic offences and four for violations of coronavirus measures.

In a car driven by a 20-year-old man officers found half a kilo of tobacco for which no duty had been paid. The driver was fined and the tobacco seized.

Police officers of the British Bases arrested a resident of the Larnaca district who was found to be in possession of 240 firecrackers.
