july 29 united by sound

It is no lie that music brings people together and it is exactly this that a programme at the Home for Cooperation and the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research aims at doing. United by Sound is a local initiative that uses music for peacebuilding and social change. As such, various concerts are organised to bring the communities of Cyprus together. One of these concerts is coming up in Nicosia towards the end of the month.

On July 29 musicians Cahit Kutrafalı and Ezgi Akgürgen will arrive at the Home Café at Home for Cooperation for a concert starting at 8.30pm. The bass and vocal duo will play some jazz standards and popular songs, improvising over loops. This is the second session of the United by Sounds concert and few spots are available so interested music lovers are advised to book a place early via email or phone ([email protected], 99-593919).

“Music is a powerful tool that can influence behaviour, shape culture and strengthen social bonds,” say the organisers. “We use music as a means to address the needs of societies divided and affected by conflict.”
