Free tours and live demonstrations at Droushia Weaving Museum

Following the success of its summer effort to promote rural life in the hidden corners of Paphos’ scenic countryside, the Paphos regional board of tourism is resuming free guided tours and live demonstrations at Droushia’s weaving museum for the next three months, beginning October.

Organised in collaboration with the community council of Droushia, the live presentations, performed by locals engaged with traditional arts and crafts, will transport visitors back in time when Cypriot clothing and various other items were handwoven from cotton and silk using a loom. A licensed tour guide will provide information and explanations in Greek and English.

The guided tours and live presentations will take place every Saturday at the weaving museum from 9:30am to 1pm, aimed at attracting locals and visitors to the centre, as well as the village of Droushia.

The traditional character of the community that includes various accommodation, ranging from small hotels to stone-built houses, makes Droushia ideal for agrotourism.

The initiative is part of the ministry of tourism’s ongoing strategy, and Paphos’ relevant organisations to promote the special features of rural areas and boost sustainable development.

For more information contact the Paphos regional board of tourism, or the Droushia community council on 26 811 500, 26 332 056, or via email: [email protected] and www.visitpafos.org.cy
