Almost time for Kakopetria’s Spoon Sweets Festival

6

For those with a sweet tooth, this upcoming festival is one to mark in the calendar! Set in the busy and charming village of Kakopetria, the fourth edition of the Spoon Sweets Festival returns on September 24 and 25. Stalls with traditional Cypriot items will be set up all around the village and heaps and heaps of various spoon sweets flavours will make an appearance. Tons of glass jars with popular and more unique fruit and vegetable sweets will be available to taste and buy as the producers of the village showcase their delicious creations.

Organised by the Municipal Council of Kakopetria, the festival always gathers a large crowd. Its first edition was held in 2017 and welcomed 7,000 visitors. The second edition in 2018 was even more successful with a crowd of 15,000 while 2019’s festival continued its expansion just before the pandemic broke out. This September’s event will be the first since then and the municipal council hopes it will attract even more visitors. Apart from food stalls, storytelling and narration events for children will take place in the mornings and afternoons as well as live music and dance performances by local ensembles.

A part of the council’s actions is to promote the community and culture of Kakopetria and make it a main tourist destination in the Troodos area, the festival will promote the old quarter of Kakopetria and the local culinary cultural heritage.
