Police catch 11 drug drivers in a week

Eleven drivers have tested positive for drugs while driving in a week, and many of whom also committed various other traffic offences.

The most serious case, between February 3 and 11, appears to be that of a 26-year-old who was speeding and having been signalled by the police to stop, failed to do so, and swerved erratically in the opposite direction. While initially moving towards the police, he then swerved into the opposite lane and hit a railing.

He was preemptively taken to Nicosia general hospital for a check-up and tested positive for drug use.

A further three drivers who also tested positive, two 26-year-olds and a 40-year-old, did not have the necessary paperwork – such as driving without insurance, no valid MOT and out-dated learner’s driving license.
