A 24-year-old suspect in police custody for the alleged possession of counterfeit euro notes and drugs escaped from Yermasoyia police station on Thursday morning.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday along with a 35-year-old man after a chase in Limassol.

According to first reports, he escaped from the Yermasoyia police station under conditions that are being investigated while he was outside his holding cell. The incident occurred at around 11.30am.

Patrol cars were scouring the area to locate him. Police said orders were given for a report of events into the incident.

The two suspects were arrested after 80 €100 notes which appeared to be counterfeit were found in their possession. During the chase on Tuesday, the 24-year-old was seen throwing an object out of the car. It was located later and turned out to be a piece of paper with 3.5 grams of cannabis wrapped inside and a plastic bag containing a quantity of methamphetamine, weighing 0.4 grams.

On Saturday evening, another detainee, 43, had escaped after saying he felt unwell and being transferred to the Paphos general hospital. He was arrested on Tuesday early morning in Limassol after a chase.

A police patrol spotted a taxi reported stolen in Oroklini about an hour earlier and, after chasing the vehicle when the driver failed to stop when signalled, found the 43-year-old was driving it.
