Today’s Weather: Yellow warning, heavy rains

A yellow warning is in place on Wednesday for thunderstorms from 3 am until 3 pm., with rainfall rates expected to range between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour.

Island wide the weather will be mainly rainy with local storms. In some areas, rainfall will be prolonged and intense, while thin fog may form. On the highest peaks of Troodos sleet or snow is possible. From the afternoon onwards, the storms will ease.

Winds will be mainly south-easterly to south-westerly, weak to moderate, up to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough. Temperatures will rise to 20 C inland and on the coasts, and 11 C in the higher mountains.

On Wednesday night it will be mostly cloudy with local rain and storms expected in the east and later on along the coast.

Winds will be mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, weak, up to 3 Beaufort. The sea will gradually become calm to a little rough on the east and south coast, rough in the remaining coasts. Temperatures will drop to 12 C inland, 15 C on the west coast, 14 C on the remaining coasts, and 7 C in the Troodos area.

On Thursday the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated rains are expected, mainly in the mountains. On Friday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with a small chance of isolated rain in the afternoon. On Saturday, the weather will be mostly clear with temporarily increased clouds.

The temperature until Saturday is expected to rise gradually, to fluctuate slightly above average for the season.
