A number of international artists will come together on Saturday to showcase their work under the title For the Love of Lempa.
The exhibition, which will run at the Cyprus College of Art, will showcase paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and new media.
Since its inception in 1969 many artists have been influenced by the college and its beautiful setting within the village of Lemba – where it has been situated since 1985. Just as many who have come before, the artists featured in this upcoming exhibition have been influenced to create because of the history behind the college and what it stands for.
The artists taking part are Jacinta Ash, Lara Sophie Benjamin, Karen Betts, Serena Boheimer, Andros Efstathiou, Harding Jennifer, Kenneth G Hay, Emilios Koutsoftides, Elli Lestas, Sarah-Jane Mason, Lucinda Metcalfe, Cheryl Newman, Margaret Paraskos, Stass Paraskos, Grahame Parry, Mo Price, Alan Rutherford, John Sims, Cath Walshaw, and Louizos Louizou.
During the exhibition’s run, a number of events will place, starting with a talk by artist Sarah-Jane Mason on Sunday at 7.30pm.
Mason is a British Creative Practitioner and Educator currently based in Saltaire. She comes from a traditional Fine Art background and studied at Liverpool John Moore’s University and Cyprus College of Art.
The exhibition’s curator, Alan Rutherford will give a tour of the exhibition on September 28 at 7.30pm. The tour and talk will look at the history of the college at Lempa, the influence of its founder Stass Paraskos and the work of each of the artists in the show and their relationship with Lempa.
A second artistic talk will be held on September 29 at 7.30pm by Elli Lestas and a third on October 3, also at 7.30pm, by Mo Price.
Lestas is British artist based in Cyprus. She has worked as a Textiles Lecturer at The London College of Fashion for six years.
Price is influenced by the Chalcolithic period of Cyprus, the ecclesiastical Byzantine art work on the island and the metal sculptures of Paraskos and other artists whose work is featured on the Great Wall of Lempa.
The exhibition will remain open until October 7.
