Colouring books for adults have quickly become a thing. Colouring within the lines is seen to be a process that deals with stress and calms-down our nerves when life gets a bit too much. But colouring books can also teach a bit more than how much stress we can take, they can also teach about the world around us.
After the release and success of the colouring book entitled My Nicosia Mandala by Melissa Hekkers, the journalist, author and photographer is now set to launch her second colouring book, this time entitled My Akamas Mandala, on Tuesday in Nicosia.
My Akamas Mandala colouring book depicts 11 hand-drawn mandalas by Hekkers which were inspired by the shapes and forms of a variety of Akamas endemic local flowers.
Besides the creative entertainment provided through colouring in, for both children and adults, the publication seeks to inform in an interactive and enjoyable manner. The objective is to raise awareness and promote the concept of endemic wildlife as well as the importance of preserving the natural heritage of the Akamas, according to Hekkers.
With the collaboration of the Project and Research Center AKTI and the Forestry Department, the book hosts information, fun facts and characteristics of the local flowers presented, and also fun facts regarding the littering of the sea, a great environmental threat that applies to the Akamas too.
The layout and design of the book were completed by Zara Der Arakelian.
